Congrats to our Spring 2025 Grant Recipients
Melanie Wilke - Enhancing Physical Education through Adaptive Equipment and Assistive Technology
The main goal is to enhance student learning opportunities, ensure equitable access to the district's physical education programs, and encourage health and fitness for all students. Adaptive equipment will foster a positive attitude toward fitness in individuals who may have otherwise had negative experiences due to an inability to participate in the activity because it was too challenging given their physical limitations.
Merry Walter - Eisenhower Family Book Club
The goal is to promote literacy and the love of reading to students and families of Eisenhower Elementary.
Jennifer Georgia - Leafy Learning: Aeroponics in the Library
The aeroponic garden achieves several goals: enhance interdisciplinary learning by serving as a hands-on tool for teaching a variety of subjects including health, science, math, literacy, and social skills; incorporate real-life applications into the classroom curriculum; increase student knowledge of health and nutrition; encourage collaboration and communication amongst students; and boost student engagement.
Lisa Daugherty - Watching Community Grow
The goal is to plant various types of fruit plants, wildflowers and succulents around school and to give to neighbors.
Melisa Messenger - Aldo On Display - STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) in Practice
The goal is to create a new art installation in honor of the school's namesake - Aldo Leopold. The grant funds materials and field trips.
Jen Kelm - Baird Elementary Mental Wellness Days
The goal is to educate students on the importance of their overall mental wellbeing and them them that stress is normal, reinforce that all feelings are ok, and that they have the power to handle them in a healthy way. The funds will support the purchase of materials for activities such as making stress balls, glitter bottles, journaling supplies, affirmation stones, gratitude cards, etc.
Sandra Gomez - Newcomer Project
The goals would be to provide hygiene supplies to all Newcomer families in need, provide a backpack with school supplies for Newcomer students; and provide Uber/Lyft gift cards to all Newcomer families that are in need of transportation.
Brad Hotchkiss - CO2 Dragsters
The goal is to purchase a timing mechanism and additional track for the CO2 Dragster Project.
Sarah Valentine - Red Smith Woods Story Trail
The grant funding would be used to purchase materials for 18 sign posts and frames and sets of nature based books to feature throughout the year along a City of Green Bay trail next to Red Smith School. The trail would be used by elementary students as part of the outdoor learning program as a literacy and movement activity.
Katy Johnson & Brianna Griffith - Story to Stage: Bringing Literature to Life through Art & Performance
The goal is to increase student exposure to activities surrounding literature, by connecting them with a local theater group and having an opportunity to attend a performance at a local theater.
Holly Buell-Nowakowski & Kim Verridan - Breaking Barriers to Authentic Learning: Expanding Student Access to Real-World Experiences
The goal is to provide transportation services to enable student to engage in real-world, community based experiences that extend beyond the classroom.
